The Alexandria Environmental Policy Commission and Alexandria Renew Enterprises want to recognize Alexandria City residents that demonstrate a commitment to protecting the environment and work to preserve local natural resources. Alexandria city residents, groups, clubs, organizations or corporate neighbors may be nominated. Nominations reflect environmental advocacy and stewardship that can include but are not limited to protection of natural resources, energy conservation, environmental education and outreach, sustainability, water preservation and conservation, waste reduction, reuse, recycling, and/or clean air initiatives.

Nomination period: Nominations must be received no later than
Friday, March 15, 2019.
The Ellen Pickering Environmental Excellence Award will be presented during the Alexandria Earth Day celebration on Saturday, April 27, 2019. The recipient will have a tree planted in their honor on that day.
Selection: The selection committee is comprised of representatives from
Alexandria Environmental Policy Commission, Alexandria Renew Enterprises, and members of Ellen Pickering’s family.Criteria: Nominees for the Ellen Pickering Environmental Excellence Award must reside in the City of Alexandria for individual nominees. Groups, clubs, organizations, or corporate neighbor nominees must operate within the City of Alexandria. All nominees must demonstrate a direct impact on protecting the natural environment and its resources within the City of Alexandria.
Applicable subjects: Included but not limited to the preservation of natural resources; energy conservation; environmental education and outreach; sustainability; water preservation and conservation; waste reduction, reuse, and recycling; and/or clean air initiatives.
